I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz

It occurred to me today that this song is extremely congruous with the story and characters of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I think it is especially representative of Augustus and Hazel’s relationship. Obviously, both the song and the book are predominately concerned with not giving up on a relationship even though it is difficult, but furthermore, they both include star symbolism and wanting to make a difference and appreciating what you have and not letting loss destroy your life and loving while you can and being “on a roller coaster that only goes up.”
Lyrics here, if you’re interested. Do you think they’re reminiscent of The Fault in Our Stars?

I’m behind in schoolwork, and I practically don’t even feel like trying anymore. I just feel like staying home for the rest of the year and sleeping in bed all day. Everything seems so impossible to complete with the mental state of mind I’m in. The smallest things seem like climbing mount everest. I mean today was okay because there was something to keep me occupied, but if there’s nothing to keep me occupied, I sit there and just start to think of everything that has brought me down this week. I realize I’m not myself, and I have no idea what to do about it.
Maybe in time it’ll get better, but for now, I don’t know what to do. Where to start. How to solve each and every single problem I’m having now.
I’m missing so much class, it’s really not even funny.
After a while, you just learn what’s done is done. You can’t go back and change anything and you can’t sit there and mope about everything that is wrong with your life. You just deal with what you’re given and work from there.
